Dave Klevesahl: Community solar is a big-picture solution

“My wife’s great-grandpa settled this land when he came from Germany. It’s always been farmland, but it’s hard to farm in dry years. I’m growing wildflowers on it now as a pollinator plot. It’s good for bees, butterflies, birds – and everything else.”

“I enjoy nature and the planet we live on, I love the change of seasons. I get bored with each of them and am excited every time they change. I care about the environment – and I’m willing to help. I get so frustrated when I hear people just kicking the can down the road and doing the same thing over and over again.”

“The money will help, but that’s not why I’m doing it. I told my kids that if somebody offered me ten times the money to use our land for a chemical plant, I wouldn’t do it. This is about doing the right thing.”

“I know it will be a long process. It’s very frustrating that I can’t use my land for community solar – which is a more productive use for this particular land – unless the law changes. I would love to talk to the people blocking it, because they’re obviously not looking at the big picture – they’re being very self-centered.”
